Guide 9 of 10About 3 min to read

In this guide we will show you how to pair a new or replacement tank unit with your TankSync hub.

Pairing the tank unit that came in your kit is part of First-Time Setup. Use this guide when you add another tank unit, replace one, or need to pair one again. Extra tank units go on sale later; for now TankSync is sold as a complete kit.

Before You Start

Make sure that:

  • Your hub is powered on.
  • The tank unit is charged. Solar builds charge in the sun; no-solar builds charge from any 5 V USB charger or power bank.
  • The tank unit is close to the hub while you pair it. You can install it on the tank afterwards.
  • Your hub has fewer than six tanks. A hub supports up to six, and it hears Lite and LoRa tank units together.
1

Put the Hub into Pairing Mode

Hold the hub's touch pad for about 5 seconds, until the light ring fills. The hub now listens for a new tank unit for 60 seconds.

You can also start pairing from the hub's web page: open the Devices tab and tap + Pair new. Or, in the app, tap +, choose Pair a Tank, pick your hub and tap Start Pairing.

2

Tap the Tank Unit

Within the 60 seconds, tap the tank unit's touch pad once. Its light blinks slowly while it looks for the hub, for about 15 seconds. A LoRa tank unit can take a little longer.

Pairing Completes

Three long blinks mean the tank unit is paired. It sends its first reading straight away, and the new tank appears on the hub. Its settings then sync with the hub automatically.

If you started pairing from the app, give the tank a name and tap Continue. Otherwise the tank appears in the app on its own after its first reading.

Verify Communication

Check the hub's display, the Tanks tab of its web page, or the app. Once the tank unit sends its first reading you should see:

  • Water level
  • Battery level
  • Signal strength
  • Last communication time

That confirms pairing was successful. Then set the tank's name, capacity and distances in Configure Your Tank.

Lite tank units suit 1 and 2 floor homes; LoRa suits 3 to 4 floors, multi-storey buildings and farmhouses. Every hub works with both.

Troubleshooting

If pairing doesn't complete:

  • Check the hub was still inside its 60-second pairing window when you tapped the tank unit. Start pairing on the hub again and tap again.
  • If the slow blinking stops without three long blinks, the hub didn't hear the tank unit. Bring them closer together and try again.
  • No light at all when you tap? The battery may be flat. Charge the tank unit and try again.
  • Three blinks after a tap can mean the battery is low, or that a paired tank unit couldn't reach its hub. In the second case it starts looking for a hub to pair with, so put your hub into pairing mode.
  • Ten rapid flashes mean the battery is nearly flat. Charge it first.
  • To cancel pairing on the hub, hold its touch pad for 5 seconds again.

Your new tank unit is now paired and ready to use. If you're adding several tank units, repeat the same process for each one. A hub supports up to six tanks.
