About SmartGhar
SmartGhar builds home hardware for Indian homes, starting with the water tank.
Why TankSync exists
Almost every home in India has an overhead tank and a pump, and almost every one of them has the same two failures on repeat: a tank that overflows down the outside wall, and a pump that runs dry because the sump emptied and nobody noticed. The usual fixes are a float switch that jams or a person who climbs to the roof to look.
TankSync started as a personal build to solve exactly that, documented publicly on the TechPosts YouTube channel. Enough people asked to buy one that it became a product.
How we build
Units are designed, assembled, and bench-tested by hand in small batches in Delhi. The person who wrote the firmware is the person who answers your support email. That is slower than a factory line and it is why delivery takes 20 to 25 days, but it also means every unit that ships has been switched on and checked by someone who cares whether it works.
Open by default
TankSync firmware is published under AGPL-3.0 and the hardware files under CC BY-SA 4.0, both on GitHub, including schematics, bill of materials, and flashing tools. The hub runs a local web dashboard, speaks MQTT and REST on your own network, and integrates with Home Assistant via HACS.
The optional cloud dashboard at tanksync.smartghar.org is a separate proprietary product. Your hardware works fully without it, and there is no subscription: Lifetime Pro is included with every hub and tied to the device rather than to an account.
What is next
A wireless smart socket that controls the pump with dry-run protection, and an mmWave level sensor aimed at commercial and industrial tanks. Both are in development and both will be documented in public the same way.
