Frequently Asked Questions
Ordering and delivery
Are pre-orders open?
Yes. Pre-orders for the new modular TankSync are open now. The first batch is 100 kits, and orders ship in the sequence they are paid, so ordering early means receiving early. Full detail on the pre-orders page.
How long does delivery take?
Kits ship from December 2026, in the sequence orders are received. You get a confirmation email straight away and a tracking link on the day we dispatch.
What if the date slips?
These are good-faith estimates, not guarantees, and components come from suppliers. If your order is going to miss its window, we write to you before the date passes, explain what is holding it up, and offer a full refund as the alternative to waiting. You will not have to chase us.
What does shipping cost?
Nothing. Shipping is free anywhere in India and already included in the price you see. We dispatch through Delhivery and Amazon Shipping.
Do you ship outside India?
Not yet. We ship within India only, and plan to open international orders after October 2026. Email orders@smartghar.org with your country and we will let you know when we do.
Why do you need my phone number?
Our carriers require a contact number on the label, and the delivery agent usually calls before arriving. An order without a reachable number cannot be dispatched, so please check it at checkout.
Can I cancel?
No. Each kit is made to order and we buy its parts as soon as you order, so an order is final once placed. If we cannot build or ship it, or it is going to miss its window and you would rather not wait, we refund it in full. Orders placed on or before 14 October 2026 keep the terms they were sold under. To cancel one of those before dispatch, email orders@smartghar.org with your order number.
Do you accept returns?
Not for change of mind. Once a working unit has been delivered we cannot take it back, because every unit is built to order and bench-tested individually. What we do cover: a parcel that arrives damaged, a unit that is dead out of the box, or the wrong item, all fixed at our cost in both directions if you tell us within 7 days. And any hardware failure inside 12 months, under warranty.
If you are unsure whether TankSync suits your tank or your distances, write to us before you order. We would rather lose the sale than sell you something that will not work. Full detail on the returns and warranty page.
Choosing the right kit
Which kit do I need?
Start with the TankSync Modular Kit: one hub and one tank unit. Every hub handles up to six tanks, so an overhead tank, a sump and a borewell tank can all report to the same hub. For this first batch TankSync is sold as a complete kit; extra tank units go on sale later.
Lite or LoRa?
Lite is a short-range radio, right for 1 and 2 floor homes with the hub in the same building. LoRa is long-range, for 3 to 4 floors, apartment and multi-storey buildings, farmhouses and commercial sites. One hub listens to both at once, so you can mix them. Not sure? Tell us the distance and the number of floors in between and we will pick for you.
Will it work with my tank?
Rooftop, overhead and underground tanks, in plastic, concrete or steel, as long as the lid can take the level sensor through one hole. The sensor measures from the top down and needs at least 25 cm between its face and the highest water level. The main unit sits nearby on a cable of about 1.5 metres, out of the sun. If you are not certain, send us a photo of your tank lid before you order.
Does it arrive ready to use?
Almost. Power the hub, then connect it to your Wi-Fi or choose offline mode on its setup screen. Hold its touch pad until the ring fills, then tap the tank unit. Your tank appears on the hub in seconds.
Using it
Do I need Wi-Fi or an app?
No. The hub shows every tank on its own display and sounds its own buzzer. Wi-Fi is only needed for the app, the optional cloud dashboard, and home automation.
What happens when the internet goes down?
Nothing changes. The sensor talks to the hub over its own radio, not through your router, so readings and alerts carry on exactly as before.
How do I charge the sensor?
Solar builds charge themselves: the panel tops up the battery whenever the sun is out, and the battery carries the readings through nights and cloudy spells. No-solar builds, made for sumps and shaded tanks, charge from any 5 V USB charger or power bank. The app and the hub show the battery level, so you always know when a charge is due.
Which alerts can I control?
In the app you set the low and high levels for each tank and get push alerts for low water, an empty tank, near overflow, a fast drop that can mean a leak, a unit going offline and low battery. On the hub, choose Quiet, Standard or Loud buzzer sounds and set quiet hours for the night.
What do the ring colours mean?
The ring fills as the tank fills, in its own colour for each tank. It turns amber when a tank is low, pulses red when it is nearly empty, and blinks white if a tank unit stops reporting.
Is there a subscription?
No. Lifetime Pro is included with every hub and tied to the hardware, so it transfers if you sell or gift the device. There is no card on file and nothing to renew.
How do updates work?
For the hub, one click in the app or on the hub web page. For a tank unit, hold its touch pad to open setup mode and upload the update from its setup page. Updates are free for as long as you own the device.
Does it work with Home Assistant?
Yes, natively via HACS. There is also local MQTT and a REST API on your own network, so it works with Homey, openHAB, Node-RED, or anything else that speaks MQTT. No cloud account is required for any of it.
Can it control my pump?
Not by itself. With Home Assistant and a smart relay rated for your motor, fitted by an electrician, you can start the pump when the tank is low, stop it when it is full, and cut it if the sump runs dry. See Smart Home and Automations. A TankSync smart switch is in development.
Support and warranty
What if it stops working?
Email support@smartghar.org. Many issues are a setting or a firmware update and get fixed in an email. If the unit does need to come in, you send it to us, we repair or replace it, and we ship it back to you free of charge. Full detail on the returns and warranty page.
How long is the warranty?
12 months from delivery against failure under normal use, covering the original purchaser.
Can I repair it myself?
The tank unit is modular: the level sensor, main unit and solar panel are separate parts on cables. If one is damaged, write to support@smartghar.org and we sort out the part that needs replacing.
Where are the setup guides?
In the Help Centre: first-time setup, sensor installation, tank configuration, pairing extra sensors, firmware updates, and troubleshooting.
Is it really open source?
The Home Assistant integration is open source on GitHub, and the hub speaks open standards, MQTT and a local REST API, so your data is never locked in. Earlier TankSync firmware and hardware files are public on GitHub.
