Guide 4 of 10About 4 min to read

In this guide we will show you how to keep your TankSync hub up to date using both online and offline methods. We'll also explain when a tank unit needs an update and how firmware updates treat your saved settings.

Updating the Hub from the App

The easiest way to update your hub is from the app, and it works from anywhere. Go to Settings, scroll to Firmware, and tap Hub & Transmitter updates.

The Hub firmware card shows the version on your hub and the latest available release. Tap Check for updates. If a newer version is available, tap Install and confirm.

The hub downloads the update and restarts on its own in about 30 seconds. Tank readings pause briefly while it does. The hub also checks for updates by itself every 24 hours.

Updating the Hub from Its Web Page

On the hub's web page, open the System tab and find Receiver firmware. Tap Check for updates, then tap the button that appears to download and install the new version.

The hub downloads the latest firmware from the SmartGhar update server and installs it automatically. You'll see the progress on the hub's display, and it restarts on its own once the update is complete.

Make sure your hub is connected to the internet while performing an online update.

Will My Settings Be Lost?

No. Updating the hub firmware does not erase your configuration. Your tank settings, Wi-Fi configuration, device preferences, and calibration values are all preserved during normal firmware updates.

Once the hub restarts, everything continues working exactly as before, now with the latest improvements and features.

Offline Firmware Update

If your hub doesn't have internet access, you can update it manually:

  • Email support@smartghar.org and we will send you the right firmware file for your hub.
  • On the hub's web page, open the System tab and find Or upload a .bin manually.
  • Choose the firmware file you received.
  • Tap Upload & flash.

The hub will upload the firmware, install it, and restart automatically. As with online updates, your existing configuration remains unchanged.

Hub Updates vs Tank Unit Updates

TankSync consists of two separate devices: the hub and the tank unit.

The hub gets new features and improvements regularly, so we recommend keeping it updated whenever a new version becomes available.

The tank unit firmware has already been fully tested before shipping. In most cases you do not need to update it. The Firmware updates page in the app lists each tank unit and whether it is up to date. Even if it shows a newer version, you can safely keep using the one supplied with your device unless we specifically recommend an upgrade. This keeps reliability high and avoids unnecessary maintenance.

Updating a Tank Unit

If we ask you to update a tank unit, we will send you the right file for it. Files differ between tank unit builds, so only use the file we send.

  1. Hold the tank unit's touch pad. At about 5 seconds its light starts blinking fast: that means let go. A double blink every 2 seconds then shows it is in setup mode.
  2. On your phone, join the Wi-Fi network named TankSync-TX- followed by four characters. It has no password.
  3. Open a browser and enter 192.168.4.1. The tank unit's setup page opens.
  4. In the Firmware update section, choose the file and tap Upload & flash. The tank unit installs it and restarts.

Opened setup mode by mistake? Tap Done — exit setup on the setup page, or hold the touch pad until the light blinks fast and let go. The tank unit also leaves setup mode by itself after 5 minutes with no changes.

Why We Release Updates

We release firmware updates regularly to improve performance and reliability. Updates may include:

  • Bug fixes
  • Performance improvements
  • New dashboard features
  • Additional device support
  • User interface enhancements
  • Stability improvements

Time Zone Settings

The hub's time zone sets when quiet hours start and end. In India the hub uses Indian Standard Time.

If you're using TankSync in another country, open the System tab on the hub's web page and find Time zone. Tap Use auto-detected, then Apply.

Your TankSync hub is now up to date. We recommend checking for firmware updates now and then to take advantage of the latest features, improvements, and fixes.
